On October 12 in 2002 there was a bombing attack in the tourist district of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali. The attack was the deadliest act of terrorism in Indonesia killing 202 people and 240 people were injured.
In the attack there were three bombs: The first one was a backpack-mounted device carried by a suicide bomber. It was detonated inside the nightclub named Paddy's Pub. As people stormed out, another larger explosion tore through a second club called the Sari Club. The second one was a large car bomb which was detonated inside a white Mitsubishi by another suicide bomber. It happened outside of the Sari Club located opposite Paddy's Pub. A remote control was rigged for detonation, in case the bomber changed his mind. Outside the United States consulate in Denspar the last bomb detonated. It was much smaller then the two others and caused only minor injures to one person.
President George W. Bush said that the bombings were made to «create terror and fear».
The authorities with the intelligence of the U.S and Asia, linked the attacks to the terrorist network Al Qaeda in Southeast Asia, because the attack had many of the typical characteristics of the terrorist group:
Coordinated and simultaneous bombings
Attention to timing
Aiming at an economic target (in this case tourism)
The Indonesian authorities killed the suspected man behind the attack in march 2010
